Asofoetida
(heeng) is quite an expensive herb but nevertheless
it is an important ingredient for gravies, curries and
pickles. It adds a unique, tangy flavor to vegetables
and rice dishes. Pickles, especially mango pickle, are
incomplete without being seasoned with this delicious
herb.
Asofoetida is an excellent digestive. A few grains
in any gravy, chutney or soup, ensures quick digestion
of the food. It rids the system of gas and flatulence.
It cleanses the digestive system. It is good for joint
pains and should be taken with warm water early in the
morning. It is highly recommended during cold, cough
and sinusitis.
- Churan made by mixing heeng, jeera, salt and sugar,
is very good for the stomach. It cures giddiness and
nausea.
- Add ample portions of Asofoetida while preparing
mango and lemon pickle. It acts as a natural preservative
and also enriches the taste.
