Cardamom
or elaichi is considered to be the queen of spices.
A popular ingredient in Indian sweets, vegetables and
rice dishes, elaichi is also added to flavor tea. Grandmothers
prescribed tea, laced with clove and cardamom, for preventing
coughs and colds during the winter months. Cardamom
guards against chest congestion and lends warmth to
the body. It also adds a pleasant aroma to the tea.
It is recommended for irritability and restlessness
of temper. It cures headaches and improves blood circulation.
- Cardamom is generously used in rice biryani and
pulao.
- Boil two cardamoms in a cup of water. Add a spoon
of honey. Drink it just before going to bed. Clears
sinuses and relives chest congestion.
