Witch
Hazel is a small tree and looks attractive in gardens
and can even be grown in pots. Its bright yellow and
red leaves are striking in autumn.
Witch hazel water, lotion and ointment are easily
available in drugstores.
It acts mostly on the veins and circulation. It has
been shown to decrease the inflammation and pain of
bruises, sore muscles, bleeding, hemorrhoids, varicose
veins, nosebleeds and insect bites.
Witch Hazel is antibacterial in nature. A weak tea
of witch Hazel serves as a good wash for inflamed eyes.
It is a good astringent.
It lowers blood pressure and increases smoothness
of respiration. It also relieves congestion. Witch Hazel
is commonly used in aftershaves and mouthwashes. It
is used in creams for treating pigmented skin. It clears
blemishes.
